Mat Barzal doesn’t understand the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce hate: ‘I like it’

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce talk has infiltrated the NHL All-Star Game.

And Islanders star Mathew Barzal is all about it.

The 26-year-old forward joined the legions of sports personalities who have defended Kelce and Swift’s high-profile relationship and questioned the ongoing hate over it from some football fans.

Barzal was asked about it during the NHL’s All-Star weekend media day.

“It doesn’t annoy me at all,” Barzal said when a reporter asked about the sports world’s biggest couple. “I don’t really understand the whole thing, people saying that it’s annoying. I kinda like it.”

Swift and Kelce have been at the center of the football universe since the two were first linked in September and made her first appearance to cheer on the Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium later that month.

Since then, a controversy has erupted over some “dads, Brads and Chads” that have been enraged over the constant coverage of Swift’s presence at games during NFL broadcasts.

But don’t count Barzal among them as he professed an admiration for the pop sensation and one of the NFL’s best tight ends.

“I like Taylor and Travis Kelce, sure he’s outspoken and whatnot, but his game speaks for itself,” the Isles All-Star said. “He is a gamer and you got to respect it, so yeah, I like it.”

Kelce and the Chiefs are making their fourth Super Bowl appearance in the last five years and looking to be the first team to win consecutive titles since the Patriots did 19 years ago.

While some fans have voiced their displeasure over Swift’s now firm place in football circles, a number of people have come to the pop icon’s defense.

Charles Barkley recently slammed “loser” NFL fans for their criticisms, as did FS1 host Colin Cowherd.

Barzal is making his third NHL All-Star appearance since the Islanders drafted him in 16th overall in 2015.
